Title: Gateway Marker This is a digital concept design of a 16 foot high road way marker that could serve as a visual cue between a busy downtown core and a city waterfront. The concept was to create large, readable letters to be seen by pedestrians and people passing by in vehicles to let them know this roadway arterial is a heavily trafficked conduit connecting the busy downtown with the nearby waterfront area, both of which are being highly developed. The city (Wenatchee) has strong ties to the aluminum industry, hydroelectric power (dams) and a great care for the salmon that use the mighty Columbia River as a migration and spawning route. The dynamic shape of the large sign mimics the curve of the Columbia River and the symbolic salmon are shown climbing a fish ladder. |
Here we can see the design superimposed on top of a street view, as seen by a pedestrian walking away from the waterfront and towards the city center. This version of the design shows the large vertical icons in CorTen steel. |
This view shows the design superimposed on top of a street view, as seen by a pedestrian walking
away from the city center and towards the waterfront, which is the site of the
Pybus Public Market. This version of the design again shows the large vertical icons in CorTen steel.
